Hair Growth Boosting Mask – Only 3 Ingredients!

Today I’ve got a special recipe for you – a homemade hair mask that helps combat hair loss. It’s super easy to make and doesn’t need to be stored in the fridge.

If you’ve read my previous post about natural methods and supplements for hair loss, you’ll remember I came across some interesting studies about MSM while researching the topic. That’s when the idea for this hair mask was born.

Why MSM?

Scientific research confirms the effectiveness of MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) for both internal and external use. MSM is a white powder that dissolves easily in water. To be effective in scalp care, it should be used in a 10% concentration. Lower concentrations may be too weak to work.

What’s important to know about rosemary essential oil?

Hair products with rosemary oil are available in many stores, but unfortunately, brands rarely reveal how much of it they actually use. Studies show that a 10% concentration is needed for visible effects. If you have sensitive skin, start with half that amount and do a patch test on your forearm first.

What about castor oil?

Rosemary oil is often combined with castor oil – a popular ingredient in DIY hair care. While it’s been praised for supporting hair growth for years, I couldn’t find any scientific studies confirming this effect. If you know of any, feel free to drop links in the comments – I’d love to read more!

My experience with oiling my hair

I initially tried a blend of castor and rosemary oil, but it was so thick and greasy that I gave up after a few uses. Castor oil made my hair clump together, created tangles, and dripped down my neck – not practical for everyday use.

How did I find the perfect solution?

One day I had an idea: to mix MSM and rosemary oil with a lightweight hair conditioner. Game-changer! The conditioner binds the ingredients perfectly, doesn’t drip, and is easy to apply. Best of all – it can be stored in the bathroom without refrigeration.

Recipe (for 100g of hair mask):

  • 10g MSM powder
  • 10g rosemary essential oil (start with 5g if you’re new to it)
  • 80g natural, unscented hair conditioner
  • A splash of warm water to dissolve the MSM

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the MSM powder in a little warm, boiled water (just enough to create a liquid suspension).
  2. Add the conditioner and rosemary oil.
  3. Mix everything well until smooth and creamy.
  4. Transfer to a clean jar or container.

How to use it:

After shampooing, apply the mask to your scalp, massage gently, and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse. Use 2–3 times a week.
