My Go-To Essential Oil Blend for Labour
Why Use Essential Oils During Labour?
If you’re just beginning your journey with essential oils, I’d love to share my favourite labour-support blend with you. I prepared very thoroughly for the birth of my second son. When I gave birth to my first child, I regretted not preparing enough, so this time I was determined to do things differently. Even though I had planned for full pain relief (which didn’t happen in the end), I wanted to make the first stage of labour as comfortable as possible.
I bought a birthing ball and carefully selected the essential oils that would support me through the process.
Introducing a pleasant scent into your environment helps shift your focus away from the pain. What’s more, this simple practice promotes relaxation and reduces tension. As a result, contractions can feel more manageable. Aromatherapy during labour supports not only the body but also the mind, giving you a greater sense of control over the experience.
How Do the Individual Oils Work?
This blend isn’t just beautifully fragrant — it also has well-known therapeutic effects. It consists of three essential oils:
- Orange essential oil – deeply relaxing, reduces tension, lifts the mood, and supports deep breathing.
- Peppermint essential oil – eases pain and provides a refreshing, cooling effect.
- Jasmine essential oil – brings relief, speeds up labour, and helps soften contractions.
I promise you’ll love this blend so much that you’ll continue using it even after birth — especially during the recovery period, when your body needs soothing the most.
If you try this recipe, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments — I’d truly love to hear about your experience!
