Orange Peel Cleaning Spray- Smells Amazing and Works!
Orange season is in full swing
uicy, sweet oranges are tempting in every store. At our house, they disappear by the kilo – the kids absolutely love them. But what to do with all those peels? For a long time, I simply threw them away, usually into the compost bin. Until one day I visited my friend Sandra – a true treasure trove of natural living wisdom.
A homemade spray straight from a jar
Sandra showed me a jar filled with orange peels soaked in vinegar. “This is my countertop and sink cleaner – it works great and smells amazing!” she said. I had tried cleaning with vinegar before, but the strong smell was just too much for me. It turns out that orange peels not only neutralize that smell but also add a fresh scent and enhance the cleaning power of the mixture.
Why does it work?
Orange peels contain limonene – a natural essential oil that breaks down grease, has antibacterial properties, and leaves behind a fresh, citrusy aroma. That’s why oranges are often used in eco-friendly cleaning products. When combined with vinegar, they create a cheap, simple, and safe cleaning solution – perfect for the kitchen or areas where kids play and eat.
Recipe:
- Fill a jar to the top with orange peels.
- Pour in white vinegar until the peels are fully covered.
- Seal the jar and store it in a dry, dark place for 10–14 days.
- Strain the mixture and pour it into a spray bottle.
- Dilute with water in a ratio of about 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar solution.
